Tibet has a particularly beautiful culture, with a rich history of its own enquiry into Buddhist philosophy and practice. In 2005 I spent six months there; one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences of my life. I wanted to make a soap that would remind me of that time and of all the wonderful people I met. Juniper branches are burnt in the chortens outside temples as a sort of incense. Sadly, the town I stayed in (Yushu / Jyeku ) has since then, in April 2010, been destroyed by an earth quake. Thankfully, all the children I taught (or who had joined the school since I left) survived; but the school is no longer operational at this time, and the children have been dispersed to wherever can accommodate them.
